Why does anyone need an assault rifle?

Why does anyone need an assault rifle? To kill people. Duh! That’s the stupidest question I ever bothered to answer. Why else would anybody get an assault rifle? To have a more expensive way to point a flashlight?

Sure there are many other weapons that can kill a man, but the assault rifle has features that make that job much easier. Especially in combat. It has a pistol grip that allows it to be held more ergonomically. It has attachments that help aim the gun and illuminate the target. Most importantly, it has a magazine that contains 30 bullets. Much better than a 6-shooter on the nightstand or the single shot in a hunter’s rifle.

Right now some people are like, “Jimmy, I don’t see the need for anybody to have that much power.”

Honey, the only reason you don’t see the need for such a weapon is because somewhere the weapon is doing its job. Even when it’s not fired. It’s called a deterrent. Violent force and the fear of violent force are part of reality. It’s not our job to change the world.

We have only two choices regarding the reality of violence: to win or lose. If America chooses to ban assault rifles, we’ve chosen to lose. We Christians will answer to God for dereliction of duty.

Liberals. Morally superior to God.

God uses violent force. It’s called Hell. The fear of Hell is a deterrent against sin. For some of us at least. So if God uses violent force, are you better than God that you can categorically denounce guns? Can you change the world and eliminate gun violence if God’s will is to use it against evil?

People respond by saying, “Jimmy, didn’t Jesus say ‘Live by the sword, die by the sword?'”

Yes. So it’s important that we have extremely powerful weapons so that we can move on with our lives.

Look, John Adams said it better than me: “I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy.” And the official motto of his sons’ state and mine, Massachusetts, is this: “By the sword we seek peace, but only peace with liberty.” How much more powerful is that peace and liberty when the sword in this case is a semi-automatic assault rifle?

Some people are like, “Jimmy, that’s awful. It goes against everything the Bible stands for.”

No, it goes against everything the Care Bears stand for. But guess what. God is not a Care Bear. The Bible says that rulers “do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.” (Bible, Romans 13:4)

Some people are like, “Ah, so we should leave gun ownership to the rightful authorities!”

Yes. In the United States of America, We the People are the rightful authorities. It’s our own responsibility to bear semi-automatic assault weapons to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. That’s the nature of self government. You don’t expect others to feed you and pay your medical bills, do you? No. Neither should you rely on others for your own safety.

Jesus. King in Reality.

Jesus said, “how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house.” (Bible, Matthew 12:29)

There’s Jesus describing reality, not wringing his hands pining for us to change the world. Evil men, such as thieves, do not speak the language of reason. If they were reasonable, they would obey the law. Evil men speak the language of violent force. A thief is only going to break into a house where he can overpower the owner.

Who can overpower a semiautomatic assault rifle? It’s not worth the effort for a thief. Evil men are cowards. So luckily, the mere presence of an assault rifle is usually enough. But know this, when the Prince of Peace had the Thief in the crosshairs, he pulled the trigger.

Thieves in High Places

Jesus asked “what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace.”

Superior firepower deters war. Did you hear Jesus, you godless liberals? When our enemies, both foreign and domestic, consider molesting America, they calculate the number of assault rifles at large. Then they change their mind. It’s no wonder our domestic enemies want to take away our assault rifles before they enact the worst parts of Obamacare.

Some people right now are like, “Jimmy, you sound like a Rambo Christian, ready to kill for Jesus.”

Ha ha. Listen. In this world there is no crown without a sword. Jesus wears a crown. He wields the sword. I don’t wield the sword for his kingdom. He commissioned me to enlist recruits for his kingdom. What army recruiter kills his recruits? BTW, you ought to join God’s team before he unleashes his holy high powered assault weapons against his enemies.

While we wait for that day, we administer our own temporary kingdom, the USA. Each one of us wears the crown, so each one must keep the right to bear arms. Arms like assault rifles.

forget changing the minds of these dumbed down liberals, shame is they push to confiscate guns but they wont be the one fighting the Patriots for them

  2. Dylan Trochtenberg says:

Assault weapons are completely unnecessary tools of murder. Like hunting? Use hunting rifles. Want to protect your family, home, and friends? Buy a pistol or a shotgun. The ONLY possible reason to own an assault rifle is if you are serving in the military. And please, for the sake of everyone who isn’t a religious cookoo, stop bringing Jesus and God into the mix. I know its your schtick, but you just look like a bigoted Christian who believes only he is correct and everyone else is wrong. But who cares what I have to say, right? I’m just a 16 year old Jewish liberal that is called by the crazily religious as “Godless.”

Are you kidding me!? I think you should pretty much STOP trying to speak for God. Last I looked, he didn’t need your help!…In the words of Forrest Gump…”Stupid is as Stupid Does!” Having Assault weapons for everyday use is just plain stupid….sorry, I had to “shame the Devil and tell the truth!”

  4. […] week I was chided for my article, “Why Does Anyone Need an Assault Rifle?” In it, I show how the Second Amendment jives with the Gospel message. But some Facebook […]

  5. Thanks, Rob. Glad you liked it. Jesus wasn’t a good Care Bear.

I love it! Amen, amen, & amen! Couldn’t have been put plainer! I loved the “care bear” analogy!
God bless, and keep up the good work!

Well said. In his State of the State speech, Gov. Cuomo said he owns a shotgun for hunting, and why would anyone need a 30 round assault rifle? The 2nd amendment isn’t to allow firearms for hunting – he totally misrepresented the amendment, and, of course, noone took him to task about it.
